Finished a little diy I filmed last month. Negative points for me for laziness. But I do edit videos four out of five days. This was finished on my spare day off and a lot of convincing myself that I needed to finish it.
What You Need:
Making Your Own Greek Letters is simple. At least, finding a print out takes experimental time because you have to find the right "typical" size. This took me some time because the Sorority I am a part of is not that "popular". So, I printed several sizes the first time and printed them. Then traced them out on another surface such as cardboard seen in this video and later, with better practice, a Walmart Dollar plastic cutting sheet, just thin enough to cut out with scissors and durable for multiple uses. Once the paper copies are traced on to the cardboard/plastic wear, then you need to cut them out carefully and can use them to make fabric letters or bleached letters. In this video above, I tape them underneath the plastic letters and take them outside to spray with a bottle of bleach (1/4 of bleach, 3/4 water). I slip a piece of cardboard underneath the shirt I use so that the bleach doesn't bleed out to the backside. This gives it a cleaner finish for the shirt when you finish. For the actual bleaching, I keep it in a Kitty Litter Box and keep it upright so I can just spray straightaway clearly. I give a couple test sprays away from the box and then I stand one to two feet away depending if my spray bottle is working. I do a couple of one foot sprays over the entire general area. My preference for look of bleached letters is a sort of splattered on painted look so my process takes a long time. After waiting 5 to 10 minute interval, I see if the bleach has taken effect and if it has, I spray more to areas that I want more bleached. This includes doing the corners of the Greek Letters outlines carefully. Be careful not to overbleach, which means spray so often that it drips on to parts where you don't want the bleach unless that's the look you like. One shirt I sprayed took two hours because I waited a long time between to make sure the bleach dried enough so I could then spray more sporadically and artistically for the effect I wanted. I wore these letters to my Sorority's Headquarters and they looked great. So, the time did pay off. So enjoy the video and the double post. Much Love, Natkimko
